Hiwassee John Muir/Benton MacKaye
We hike here occasionally along the Hiwasee River. The Wednesday group also has an annual late July trip that features floating the Hiwassee in Funyaks as well as a short hike for those who don't choose to take to the water.
Ocoee Chilhowee Mtn
We hike from up top down to Benton Falls and back, or we hike up from the bottom and do a big loop via Clear Creek and Clemmer trails that includes Benton Falls. Scenic Spur trail goes from the bottom along the creek up to a lower falls; a nice short hike with little elevation gain.
Ocoee Cherokee Nat'l Forest
We occasionally hike to Big Frog via several routes, but actually are more likely to do trail maintenance in that area. Driving a good ways on Forest Service roads is a major consideration there. Across the Ocoee we often hike a one-way route of Rock Creek and Dry Pond Lead trails - quite scenic down to and alongside Rock Creek.
Ocoee Brush Creek
A mountain bike trail system that we do during the week or during the winter. You can make it a short hike or you can meander around through the whole thing for a longer trek. There is an entrance point with ample parking at either end. Some climbing involved, but not a great deal. Nice views of normally hidden Ocoee #3 Lake, especially in winter. You can also connect to the Tanasi system via the Old Copper Road trail to the Ocoee Whitewater Center.
Ocoee Tanasi
Another mountain bike trail system that is much steeper than Brush Creek. We recently discovered the section of the Benton MacKaye hiking trail that makes a convenient connection into the Tanasi system.
Turtle Creek
A nice short loop hike to a beautiful falls and a nearby large cascade. Near Farner, TN, north of Ducktown off TN68.
Collegedale
A significant length of mountain bike trails winding along the east side and the top of the ridge just west of the Southern Adventist University campus. Nice views out towards Ooltewah from atop the ridge. But you really, really need a map for this!
